So, I got in from work last night at about 9.00 and switched on the television to watch some of the League Cup semi-final. Spurs were winning 1-0 and were completely outplaying Arsenal in every area of the pitch. "Aha", I thought to myself, "I know exactly how this is going to finish up", and so it came to pass. I watched about twenty minutes of it, and wandered off to potter about, doing other things, and when I checked back for the full time score, there it was, as predictable as the changing seasons: Arsenal 1-1 Spurs. Spurs had missed a mountain of chances, and then Theo Walcott had fluked an equalizer in off the outside of his ankle. read more »
This made me laugh (thanks to Ger on ThePeople'sForum for posting it): Everton are just unlucky THERE are times in my life when I'm incredibly grateful to my dad for taking me to see Southend United on my 11th birthday. It was freezing cold, everything smelt of fried onions, someone urinated on my trainers and Huddersfield won 1-0. But somehow it felt so right. It was the start of an unlikely love affair with a football team that is doomed forever to wander the lower leagues like a mournful wraith. Southend will never win anything of note, we will never field England internationals and we are unlikely to launch our own TV station, but my God, it must be more fun than being an Everton fan. read more »
Liverpool 1-0 Everton: Liverpool tighten their grip on fourth place
Liverpool ultimately edged past Everton in a Merseyside Derby that perfectly encapsulated why these teams lie fourth and fifth.
Liverpool with aspirations of the title, showed why their title challenge petered out long ago. A bright opening, some excellent football and a great goal petered out, into what was at time a nervy finish, as for the umpteenth time this season they failed to finish off opponents they had dominated.
Everton meanwhile, after being overrun for the first half, hung in there, and clawed their way back into the game. In the second half they at least held their own with Liverpool, and arguably looked the better side, without looking likely to score.
Torres, and Gerrard were again prominent for Liverpool. Ryan Babel also caught the eye, but too often failed to deliver when in good positions. More than once his final ball was wanting and he is fast becoming a frustration. He reminds you of John Barnes in his pomp, all power and pace, but his crosses and choice of pass/ shot at the crucial moment are woeful at times. That said he seems to be one goal and a lot of confidence away from exploding into life. read more »

As years go you would think that any Motherwell fan would be happy with their lot under new boss Mark McGhee. The team have been receiving plaudits and praise from all quarters for their style of football under their new gaffer and looked to be going into the new year in fine fettle just behind the Old Firm in third position after a great 5-3 win over Dundee United at Fir Park on the last Saturday of 2007,on any other year you would be right but what happened in the 72nd minute of the match against United will go down in the memory not only of the 5,227 who attended the match but everyone involved in the world of football, when yet again tragedy struck on the field. read more »
This game promises to be an open, end to end, absorbing encounter. Two teams which have enjoyed a fair amount of success this season will really go for all three points. Arsenal have in recent weeks been struggling to break down teams which seem to want to earn a draw through commited defending. Everton are enjoying some excellent form at the moment, although narrowly losing out to Man Utd, they have come out strong against Bolton and now appear to be back to best. It will be a tough ask for Arsenal to climb back to top spot as they would have to win this game, whilst hoping for Man Utd to drop points away against West Ham. Everton can continue their ascent up the table and probably will if they win here. read more »

Maybe the results weren't authenticated by the Electoral Reform Society, but there was no doubt that the voting was near-unanimous. Most Liverpool supporters wanted the club's American owners tohightail it out of town.
The result of 33 fixtures is that Arsenal and Man City are behind my Southampton taking the 4th position
